A key
component of the Qbisys Data Protection Software Suite is the Qbisys
Backup package. Coming from a long history in dealing with the mainframe
market, the Qbisys Backup solution entails backup software derived
for open systems from a mainframe reliability perspective.
The design of the
interface is uniquely simple - a plain, easy to understand, HTML interface.
Under the covers, Qbisys Backup contains several industry firsts, including
an easy to use backup index database which allows any administrator
to build powerful reports. Qbisys backup was designed to work within
the 'all-in-one' backup environment of the Qbisys Backup server, which
can also contain the QC Virtual Tape Library component to further enhance
the usefulness of Qbisys Backup. Combining these two components with
the third, Qbisys Archiver, and a powerful solution can be created -
allowing data to migrate seamlessly from one backup repository to another,
without having to retrace the data back through the original system
source.
The Qbisys vision of
creating a modular environment where administrators can easily add
on capacity or functionality is easily understood. Starting off
with the Qbisys Virtual Server and a simple tape device, an administrator
can begin doing classic 'backup-to-tape' offline backups. Add in
the Qbisys Virtual Tape Library component, and the same administrator
can now improve backup performance for multiple, simultaneous backups,
and dramatically reduce the time to recover single files or small
file systems and databases. Further add-in the Qbisys Archiver,
and the administrator can now manage a myriad of tapes moving in-and-out
of long term or off-site storage. If the need arises, tapes that
contain critical data backed up well beyond the normal data retention
times of backups, the Qbisys Archiver re-integrates that backup
with the Qbisys Backup engine.
Used in a standalone
operation, or in combination with the other Qbisys tools, the Qbisys
Backup solution is unique several ways. Coming from a background
in mainframe management, the Qbisys team of developers has created
a surprisingly simple method of supporting a wide range of backup
