Rounding
out the Qbisys Data Protection Software Suite is the Qbisys Duplication
package. Ensuring data is always available and never itself a potential
single-point-of-failure is the goal of the Qbisys Duplication package.
Any data sent to the
Qbisys Backup server is qualified to be a replication target for
the Qbisys Duplicator which will take the data and make any number
of a copies of that data in one or several different physical locations.
While data security is a top priority and limiting external access
to an organization's data is a valid concern, not being able to
access the data at all is even more so! By replicating data to several
locations, the likelihood of data disappearing or becoming inaccessible
is minimized. Up to now, high infrastructure costs were the main
reasons behind companies not being able to afford the luxury of
having data replicated across a number of mediums and locations.
However, as hard disk drive and other hardware prices continue to
drop, data replication and distribution becomes ever more popular
among IT organizations.
Setup as part of the Qbisys Backup server, the Duplicator can automatically
copy any volume - e.g., virtual tape volume or online disk volume
- from one location to another based on a series of conditions set
by the administrator. For example, volume A could be copied daily
from the QVB server to another QVB server's empty disk space over
the WAN, and then backed up to a remote tape device for off-site
storage. In another case, volume B might be a virtual tape backup
containing backups of snapshots. In such a case, it might be advantageous
to keep multiple copies of those snapshots for point-in-time restores
to remote offices that want to share copies of that data. Similar
to to snapshotting, the administrator can command Qbisys Duplicator
to automatically detect and copy any changes made to the original
volume B, making certain that duplicate volumes are kept to the
highest level of replication possible.
The Qbisys Duplicator
is another simple, easy-to-use, HTML-based utility that can extend
the overall level of data protection and availability of an orginzation's
data. The Qbisys Unified Architecture allows administrators to chose
from a myriad of tools to build his/her own 'right-sized' data protection
scheme.
